Laser skin rejuvenation in Holborn

Laser skin rejuvenation at glōh in Holborn, WC1, with our aesthetic practitioner: assessment and a patch test first, at 46 Theobalds Road near Chancery Lane Underground station.

What it is

Laser and intense pulsed light treatments use light energy, but they are different technologies. A laser delivers light at a selected wavelength; IPL uses a broader range of filtered light. The equipment, settings and intended use determine which skin concerns can be addressed. Your practitioner explains the equipment, proposed treatment and its suitability for your skin before you decide.

Some systems target pigment or visible vessels; others work differently and have different recovery requirements. A general promise to improve every form of pigmentation or redness would therefore be misleading. Your skin needs assessment before a plan can be proposed. Changing marks and unexplained symptoms may require a medical opinion first. Results and recovery vary, and risks can include burns, pigment changes, scarring and eye injury. Protective measures and a patch test reduce risk but cannot remove it.

How we approach it at glōh

Our aesthetic practitioner discusses your concern, skin history, medicines and recent sun exposure before examining the proposed treatment area. The first decision is whether the concern falls within the intended use of the equipment available. We explain why a particular approach is being considered and when a medical assessment or another option is more appropriate.

A patch test is part of the plan before full treatment. The waiting period and preparation follow the device protocol and your assessment, rather than a universal timetable. We discuss relevant training and the treatment environment, expected recovery, possible complications and how to obtain advice afterwards. If a series is proposed, the number and interval are reviewed against your response. There is no guarantee that every area will respond alike. Your consent and the full cost are confirmed before treatment proceeds.

Is it right for you?

Skin tone, the cause of the concern and the specific device all affect suitability. Tell us about recent tanning, sunburn, active infection, cold sores, unusual scarring, medicines and previous laser treatments. Photosensitivity and some medical conditions may make treatment unsuitable. Pregnancy or breastfeeding should also be discussed before a procedure is arranged.

Darker skin needs appropriate equipment, settings and practitioner experience; a general claim of suitability for all skin types is not enough. Your assessment considers the proposed equipment and its intended use. A new, changing, bleeding or otherwise concerning mark needs medical assessment before any cosmetic light treatment is considered.

What to expect

Before

Attend the assessment and patch-test appointment before full treatment. Follow the device-specific instructions on sun exposure, tanning and skincare, and disclose all medicines. Tell us about any change in your skin or health after the test. Do not stop prescribed medication to make yourself eligible for a procedure.

The appointment

Your practitioner reviews the test response and checks the agreed area before confirming consent. Appropriate eye protection is worn throughout. Light pulses can feel hot or sting; tell the practitioner about discomfort. The settings, cooling and treatment duration depend on the device and the particular concern being addressed.

Afterwards

Redness, swelling or temporary darkening of treated pigment may occur, depending on the procedure. Recovery can last longer than a day. Follow the written advice on sun protection and skincare, and do not pick crusting skin. Seek prompt advice for blistering, increasing pain, unexpected colour changes or any eye symptoms.
