Microneedling in Holborn

Microneedling at glōh in Holborn, WC1, with our aesthetic practitioner: an assessment of your skin and recovery needs, at 46 Theobalds Road near Holborn and Chancery Lane stations.

What it is

Microneedling uses fine needles to create controlled punctures in the skin. The resulting repair response is the reason it is sometimes called collagen induction therapy. It may be considered for concerns such as uneven texture, some acne scars and fine lines, although the response varies and improvement is not guaranteed. The device and proposed approach are explained during your consultation.

The depth and treatment area matter. A procedure designed for surface texture is not interchangeable with one intended for a particular type of scar. Results develop over time, so the immediate appearance of the skin is not the finished result. Microneedling can involve discomfort, pinpoint bleeding and temporary redness; infection, pigment changes and scarring are also possible. An assessment helps establish whether this approach, another treatment or no procedure is appropriate for your concern.

How we approach it at glōh

Our aesthetic practitioner begins by discussing your skin history, what you hope to change and any treatments you have already tried. We look at the concern itself and at how your skin usually heals. The proposed settings and treatment area are chosen for an individual plan, rather than using the same depth for every face.

Before you decide, we discuss discomfort, the likely recovery and the limits of what microneedling may achieve. Any numbing product is considered as part of the treatment assessment, including allergies and suitability. If several sessions are proposed, the interval allows recovery and the plan includes a review of your response. There is no commitment to a course simply because you attend a consultation. The device, practitioner details, cost and aftercare are explained before any treatment proceeds.

Is it right for you?

Microneedling is not suitable for every skin concern or every stage of recovery. Tell your practitioner about active acne, infection, cold sores, eczema, medicines, bleeding problems, reduced immunity and a history of raised scars or poor healing. Treatment may need to wait, or a medical opinion may be appropriate.

Pregnancy, breastfeeding and recent prescribed acne treatment also need discussion before booking a procedure. Do not change prescribed medication on your own. Skin tone and previous pigmentation changes form part of the assessment. A consultation should establish both whether treatment is suitable and whether its likely benefit justifies the recovery and risks for you.

What to expect

Before

Bring a list of medicines, skincare products and recent procedures. Follow the preparation advice for your agreed treatment, and tell us if your skin becomes irritated, sunburnt or infected before the appointment. Check when to pause cosmetic actives, but discuss any prescribed treatment with its prescriber before making changes.

The appointment

Your practitioner checks the treatment area, confirms consent and prepares the skin. The device passes over the agreed areas using settings selected for the plan. Sensation varies, and numbing may be considered where suitable. Tell your practitioner about discomfort throughout; treatment should not continue through an unexpected skin response.

Afterwards

Redness, warmth, sensitivity and some swelling or flaking can occur. Recovery depends on the depth, area and your skin, so follow your individual instructions for cleansing, sun protection and returning to makeup or active products. Contact the clinic if pain or redness worsens, or you notice discharge or other concerning changes.
